REX L. EVELEIGH
Many Jarvisites do not seem to know much about Mr. Eveleigh because during his four years in Minerva's Halls, he has been hard at work behind the scenes, keeping Jarvis' purse strings untangled and enlivening Math for students of Grades IX to XIII. Born in Belleville, Mr. Eveleigh attended Cherry Valley Public School in Picton, and then Picton Collegiate. After gaining practical experience by teaching public school, Mr. Eveleigh went to Queen's University, obtaining a B.A. in Mathematics. From there he came to Jarvis. Unfortunately for us, last spring Mr. Eveleigh departed for greener pastures to become Head of the Mathematics Department at Stratford Collegiate. The many Jarvisites who did know Mr. Eveleigh as teacher and friend thank him and wish him great success in the future. - - Sara Chu, 12B |
MR. ALLAN CONNELLY
Mr. Allan Connelly, a 5 foot 6 inch, 158 lb., long-haired teacher for two years at Jarvis, left us this year to go to the University of Toronto where he is studying Medicine. Mr. Connelly was born in Collingwood, but moved to Toronto where he attended Earl Haig and North Toronto Collegiates. Later, he attended U. of T. where he received his B.A. in physiology and was an outstanding member of the "Varsity Blues" for three years. This year, besides going to University, he is still active coaching the "Great" Jarvis Seniors with Tom Watt; painting the family "homestead", looking for car washers that will wash his air-conditioned convertible "free", and drumming up time to follow his Epicurean interests. Good Luck, Mr. Connelly! We'll be looking forward to your appearance on the "Nurses". - - Susan Mirsky, 12A |

MISS MARGARET I. CARMICHAEL, B.A., A.R.C.T.
Miss Carmichael who was the Head of the Modern Languages Department for two years at Jarvis, left us last year. Now she has returned to Victoria College in the University of Toronto as the Dean of Women. Torontonian by birth, she attended Humewood Public School, Vaughn Road Collegiate, Victoria College, where she studied Modern Languages and Literature and completed her education by attending the Ontario College of Education for one year. Miss Carmichael's main interest is music. She has her A.R.C.T. in singing from the Conservatory and presently is the church soloist at Metropolitan United Church. At Victoria College she was the President of the Music Club. She has spent her summer holidays for the past eight summers working on the staff of the Taylor Statten Camps in Algonquin Park. Miss Carmichael told me that she is missing high school work but she is thoroughly enjoying her new job. We, the Jarvisites wish you the best in the coming years and consider ourselves very fortunate to have had you at Jarvis as a French and German teacher. - - Mall Parn, 11A |
BEVERLEY RIX, B.A.
Last June, Jarvis was saddened by the news that another one of its teachers was leaving. Mrs. Rix. who came to Jarvis in 1961, and taught Grade IX, X, and XI English, has accompanied her husband, the Rev. Allen Rix to London, England, where he is going to take an one year course in Church History at the University of London. When she left in early September, Mrs. Rix was considering taking a course in English or History but had not made up her mind. She was also undecided about her plans when she returns to Toronto next year. Mrs. Rix was born in Sarnia. She received her B.A. in Honour English Language and Literature at Western University and spent the following year there doing post-graduate work. After a year at the Ontario College of Education she came to Jarvis. We wish Mrs. Rix the very best for the future and hope that if she decides to return to teaching. she will give Jarvis a serious consideration. - - Bonnie Cooper, 12C |
