Principal's Message '64

In 1964, the Magnet Staff has once again put in long hours of work to complete the book which you now hold in your hands. All through the school other groups of students have struggled to accomplish skills ranging from flying tackles to pleasant music. Also, numerous vocabularies, definitions, poems, dates and theorems have been studied and absorbed.

However, these immediate pleasures and conquests are not the sole gains of a year at school. Most students realize that the end of high school means the beginning of a life of independence, of a life which may last fifty or more years.

This year has been one which has emphasized the turbulent tensions and problems of the world in which these fifty years will be acted out. Assassination, riot,
warfare and propaganda are constantly shocking us. Too often, the younger generation is pictured as reacting in the face of this situation with irresponsibility and carefree self-indulgence.

I trust that Jarvis students do not give up hope. Your record in sports, music, drama, clubs and studies shows that considerable effort has been made - effort for pleasure in the present, of course, but effort for success and satisfaction in the future as well. It is up to you, to make each day of your life worth waking up to.

The Magnet is concrete evidence that you do have plans for your lives. I am confident that ultimately the future can bring you happiness. I am pleased with your past successes, and give you my best wishes for the years ahead.
