We extend warm greetings to Mr. Bruce Archer who has come to Jarvis as
a new English teacher. A real asset to the English Department, Mr. Archer
was born in Toronto and attended Duke of Connaught Public School and
Riverdale Collegiate. After graduating from Riverdale, he went to the University
of Toronto where he obtained his B.A. in English. He came to us
from R. H. King Collegiate in Scarborough where he taught for two years.
Mr. Archer, a married man, has one son and a daughter, born in February.
He enjoys travelling and athletics in general. His hobbies also include chess
and reading, and his spare time is spent co-ordinating the Student Council's
dance committee, coaching the Bantam basketball team, and working
on his M.A. thesis. Mr. Archer teaches English to grades 10, 11 and 13.
He said that he likes Jarvis very much and that he came here because he
thinks Jarvis is one of the best schools in Canada. So far he has not been
disappointed.
Mr. Archer, we welcome you to Jarvis and wish you every success and
happiness in the future.

R. G. FRENCH, B.Sc. (Forestry)
A new addition to Jarvis' teaching staff this year is Mr. French and I
would like to take this opportunity to welcome him on behalf of all the
Jarvis students.
Mr. French was born in North Bay, Ontario. Later he moved ta Levack,
not far from North Bay, where he attended public and high school. In 1959
he entered the University of Toronto majoring in Forestry with the thought
of teaching biology. After completing Forestry in 1963, Mr. French went
to work at the Department of Lands and Forests, in Forest Fire Prevention
and Control. However, teaching and the contact with students still held more
appeal and challenge, so during the summer Mr. French went to O.C.E.
and taught as a student teacher at North Toronto Collegiate. At Jarvis this
yeor he is teaching grades 9 and 10 science and grade 13 biology.
Recently married -- in December 1963 -- Mr. French and his wife,
who is in Nursing at Ryerson, enjoy an outdoor type of life. Though they
like city living they look forward to frequent trips to the country for
fishing, hunting and camping. Mr. French is also a curling enthusiast,
though idle for a year or so he will be playing in the Teachers' League
this winter with several other Jarvis teachers.
We are very pleased to have Mr. French with us and hope that he has
a very pleasant and rewarding year.

of Toronto.
Mr. Crawford has travelled to the east and west coast. He also enjoys
photography, sports in general and reading.
This year Mr. Crawford teaches Mathematics to grades 9, 10 and 13.
