The French Club had a very successful season
this year. The French language, which we are
trying to cultivate was sugar-coated with
entertainment and refreshments at each meeting. I
think it is mainly this seemingly entertaining
nature of our meetings that attract students from
grades nine to thirteen and which in turn accounts
for the size of the French Club as the largest
Club in the school.
We started the year with an extremely successful meeting. The theme was "Cafe Discotheque" and in a unique atmosphere of checkered tablecloths, candles and low red lights, we presented songs, poems and even a can-can number. The next meeting took the form of a debate on Separatism. Both speakers gave convincing arguments to support their side, and it was a very informative session for those who under- stood it. |
For the Christmas meeting, two plays, "Les
Cadeaux de Noel" and "Le Noel de Claude Berger"
were presented, the latter of which was
written by a Jarvisite.
Two outings were also arranged and consisted
of the movie "Les Vacances de Mr. Hulot" and
a trip to Central Library Theatre to see Moliere's
"L' Amour Medicin".
A combined meeting with the World Affairs
Club in January, featuring Mr. Hall attracted
over one hundred and twenty people. Mr. Hall
showed slides and antiques from Borneo, related
some of his strange adventures (he has many of
them) and sang for us in French.
Now, a dance is being planned for April
which promises to be a success.
I would like to thank this year's executive for
their willingness and co-operation; our staff advisers,
Miss Porre and Mr. Schutz for their invaluable
assistance, both physical and mental; and
above all, the loyal members of the French Club
who by their cheerful participation have made
this year as successful is it was.
